La Puntilla Beach Promenade - Bullring - Puerto Sherry Marina

Things to Do

Beaches

Fuentebravia Beach on El Puerto de Santa Maria's west coast

El Puerto has two large beaches and two small coves. The main town beach, La Puntilla, is very wide, long and flat. All the beaches are very safe for bathing. On Tuesday mornings there is a 'gypsy market' at the end of the main beach where it meets the river. Across the river in the suburb of Valdelagrana is a splendid 12 km. long beach.

Horse Riding

Las Marías, a large riding centre, is 200 yards from the villa. Lessons can be booked or alternatively a hack can be undertaken. All the horses are very quiet and gentle so a hack can be enjoyed even by someone who has never ridden before. A hack out into the country is 20 euros. A hack along the beach is 30 euros.

Golf

Clubhouse of Golf El Puerto, just 1 km. from Villa Poquito bed and breakfast

The stunning new 18 hole PGA course designed by Manuel Pinero, Golf El Puerto, is less than one kilometre from the villa. The course is 6,300 metres and a par 72, suitable for all handicaps. There is also a 9 hole golf course at Vistahermosa, within 5 minutes drive.

Tennis

There are tennis and badminton courts within five minutes walk of the villa as well as several outdoor sports centres around the town.

Aquapark

Aquasherry is a large aquapark open to visitors from July to September. It has many exciting slides such as the Super Slalom, Black Hole, Crazy Race and Kamikaze. It has a restaurant, coffee bar and pizzeria, as well as a gift shop, changing rooms and showers.

Armada Coast

Cadiz Cathedral

Why did we call our web site Armada Coast? Because Cadiz, the historic city across the bay from El Puerto, was where in 1587 Sir Francis Drake famously "singed the King of Spain's beard". He simply sailed into Cadiz harbor, taking the defenders by surprise. Then, for two days, Drake pounded them with cannon fire and plundered and burned. The Engish destroyed thirty-seven Spanish naval and merchant vessels, with very few losses of their own.

Out and About

The area around El Puerto has many places to visit. Cadiz, only 20 minutes across the bay by regular catamaran service, is a three thousand year old city full of history. Jerez, just ten miles away, is famous for sherry, flamenco and the beautiful dancing horses of the Royal Andalucian School of Equestrian Art. Arcos de la Frontera, sitting on a spectacular sheer cliff and the nearest of the White Villages, is twenty-five miles away and well worth a day trip. Just ask us for suggestions of places to visit and how to get there.
